CODE OF CONDUCT

Respect is not optional.  Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness and at Signifyin’ Blues it is mandatory.  Signifyin’ staff and the Venue reserve the right to refuse access to anyone for anything they see as harmful or disrespectful.

Statement of Purpose

Signifyin’ Blues seeks to provide a harassment-free and safe social dance experience for everyone regardless of dance ability, dance background, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion or any other characteristic or trait. We do not tolerate harassment, including sexual harassment, regardless of where the harassment happened. At the discretion of the host(s), individuals may be sanctioned or expelled from the event or future events. Our full anti-harassment policy can be found below.

 

Prohibition of Harassment, including Harassment of a sexual nature

All forms of harassment, including conduct based on sexual or gender characteristics, are contrary to basic standards of conduct between individuals and are prohibited at this event. Inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature, all forms of sexual intimidation and sexual exploitation are prohibited. Such behavior may include, but is not limited to, unwelcome or inappropriately sexual or obscene verbal, textual, graphic, or physical conduct -- regardless of sexual desire or interest.

 

Signifyin Blues also prohibits other forms of harassment, including verbal or physical conduct based on an individual’s actual or perceived status or characteristic such as: dance ability, dance background, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion or any other characteristic or trait.

 

Examples of unacceptable and prohibited behaviors, include but is not limited to: demeaning or attacking verbal conduct, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, inappropriate photography or recording, inappropriate or unwelcome physical contact, inappropriate verbal conduct, or unwelcome sexual attention.

Physical Safety

While there is always risk associated with any physical activity, unreasonably risky or unsafe dancing or other physical activity should be avoided. At the discretion of the host(s), individuals engaging in unsafe actions may be sanctioned or expelled from the event, or any future events.

 

Enforcement

If a participant engages in harassing or unsafe behavior, the event host(s) may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expulsion from the event without refund and/or temporary or permanent ban from current or future Signifyin’ Blues events. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the host(s) immediately. Contact Signifyin’ volunteers or any of the instructors or DJs if you need assistance locating the event host(s).

 

Event host(s) will be happy to help participants resolve the situation, provide escorts, contact local law enforcement if requested, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. --
